— Concept
A working atelier for a fashion designer. Brass, raw linen, and walls finished in tadelakt.
Tucked into a 1980s building, the atelier strips back to the structural shell and rebuilds with restraint. Custom brass rails carry samples; the central worktable is a single slab of polished black granite.
The brief was unusual: the client wanted a workspace that felt nothing like a workplace. We removed every internal wall, exposed the slab, and reorganised the plan around two anchors — a 14-foot worktable and a wall of shallow brass rails to display fabric samples in long, scrollable runs.
Walls are finished in moroccan tadelakt, troweled to a soft sheen. Floors are reclaimed Burma teak. The lighting plan is entirely concealed — coves wash the ceiling at three colour temperatures, switching with the time of day so the colour samples never read wrong.
